🏴☠️ Best USB-C Thunderbolt Dock In The Universe - OWC Thunderbolt Go Dock

I started writing this review before I even got the dock. Honestly, it's that good. Don't worry though, over the last 6 months I put the dock through its paces in various environments and tasks to be certain that my hunch was right.
It was.
OWC's Thunderbolt Go Dock is the best dock of all time in the universe.
It's true.
But let's rewind back to the start.
I started, as I do most things technical, by searching for weeks and labouring all of the details and options. Usually what happens is that I think I made up my mind. And then I read a small detail and realise it's just not going to be a fit.
After this went on for way too long looking at literally hundreds of options that were essentially the same tired-looking sliver of silver I was struck by the Thunderbolt Go Dock's (TGD) built-in power supply.

Boring, right?
No, my friend, you are wrong.
What this one feature shows is that the company actively sat down and thought about what makers and producers and photographers and content creators might want from a dock.
It's such a silly thing to say. But it's true. There have to be hundreds of docks on the market. We should change the expression to "a dock a dozen".
Yeah, you can probably get something cheaper. I did. And it lasted for all of a few months.
If you're tired of buying junk, or you are serious about your craft and need something that lasts, you've come to the right place.
The OWC Thunderbolt Go Dock is the one to get.
Read on if you want to know why I think so.

Connectivity
You can spend so much time finding a dock that has all the ports you need. Here is a list of what the OWC Thunderbolt Go Dock provides.

- 3 x Thunderbolt 4 ports (up to 40GB/s + power)
- 90W charging
- 2 x USB-A ports up to 10GB/s
- 1 x USB 2.0
- 1 x HDMI w/ full HDR
- 1 x SD card slot
- 3.5mm stereo audio i/o
- 1 x USB-C port (up to 10GB/s)
- 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Port (w/ Mobile Device Management capability)

This dock targets regular folks like you and me, but is also perfectly suited for content creators, and tech / media professionals.
Monitor Connectivity Options
You'll want to take a look at the official TGD page to see if dual displays are supported on your device, but it probably is. At best you can connect one 8k or 2 x 4k monitors, which is pretty awesome.
For me it's been flawless on my ultrawide. I've never had any hiccups. It just works.
Miscellaneous Features
Don't forget these other thoughtful features.
- security slot
- slim AC power plug input
- solid aluminium enclosure for fanless heat dissipation
How I Use It
Thanks to the durability I take the TGD on the road with me everywhere, and then slide it back into my studio when I'm home. I can quickly transfer my field recordings from the day, connect an external / portable monitor, run my usual backup routine (you do backup daily, right?), and even take it on stage for powering and connecting various instruments and devices.
Built-in Power Supply
The TGD has considerably more going for it and I don't want to yammer on about the power supply endlessly, but I do want to clarify why it's handy.
If I'm in Japan or Europe or Turkey I can quickly and easily swap out the cable rather than fumbling around with a travel adapter. And it's so much less hassle than an annoying power brick.
Trust me, you will thank me, and OWC.

Fanless Aluminum Enclosure
The dock does get warm sometimes but never hot. More importantly, you won't hear it, which is critical if you're a producer or content creator. I appreciate that the choice of materials enhances durability. You really feel that it's going to last a long time.
2.5 Gigabit Ethernet Port
Most of us are fine with WiFi. But there are times when you need to up/download an s-ton of data, and for those times you want the fastest Ethernet possible over Thunderbolt 4.
3.5mm Stereo Audio I/O
Would you look at that, a 3.5mm audio jack! Laugh all you want, but there's probably not a soul on this planet that hasn't pulled their hair out trying to connect audio over Bluetooth at some point.
Professionally, I would never rely on Bluetooth so the audio port is a must. Plus, it reduces cable clutter - one USB-C cable from your computer to the dock and you're set.

90W Power Charging
This one's a no-brainer, leave the lumpy Apple brick at home. Not only does the TGD keep you connected it also merges and simplifies your power needs.
Cable clutter reduction achievement unlocked.
Complaints
Can I get the dozen or so hours I spent researching other docks before finding this one?
Honestly, I don't know what else I could really ask for from a dock.
Actually, I thought of something - I wish there was a way to disable the blue light. I don't know why all companies feel the need to put lights on everything. If it's not actively being used then ideally the light should be off. Can't have it all, I suppose.
Best Dock In The Universe
Seriously, stop your search.
OWC's Thunderbolt Go Dock is the best dock of all time in the universe. What an absolutely stellar piece of technology; an essential tool for creatives and tech enthusiasts and regular folk too.
After 6 care-free months I can happily report that there are enough ports for all manner of scenarios and workflows and the dock won't let you down. The durability and portability will give you peace of mind so that you can focus on your craft.
